The Korean traditional handmade paper known as Hanji is made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, called Dak, in Korea. Hanji is a neutral pH paper with long fibers consisting of cellulose, making it strong and resistant to tearing. The unique structure of Hanji is formed by a criss-cross pattern of fibers, created by shaking the paper back and forth in a bamboo screen.

Hanji's remarkable properties and shape have remained intact not merely for centuries, but for millennia. The Buddhist Dharani Sutra and the Mugujeonggwang Daedaranigyeong, estimated to have been printed between 706 and 751 CE and housed in the National Museum of Korea, are examples of the world's oldest woodblock prints made using Hanji, dating back over 1,300 years.

Hanji's distinctive and organic texture has made it a popular choice for a variety of handicraft arts. It is used in calligraphy, drawing, lanterns, jars, wedding invitations, dolls, wallpapers, gift wrapping, decorative projects, interior and exterior design, special books, and scrapbooking, among many other applications. Hanji's plant-based fibers are also harmless to the body, and it is a sustainable material as it is made from renewable (annual) plant fiber, unlike wood pulp.

The thickness and weight of Hanji may vary slightly from sheet to sheet, and due to monitor differences, the actual colors and texture can differ slightly from what appears online. Each set contains 10 sheets, each measuring 64 x 95 cm (25.2 x 37.4 inches), with deckle edges on all four sides. The paper is a single-ply, semi-translucent material with a semi-rough texture.

Hanji is approximately 80% paper mulberry (Dak) tree inner bark fiber and 20% natural pulp. The ancient Oracle Bone Script, the earliest known form of Chinese writing, was printed on this handmade paper. Hanji is versatile and can be used for a variety of applications, including wallpaper, gift wrapping, packaging, decorative paper, lampshades, lanterns, screen panels for latticed doors, and a wide range of other handicrafts.
